If you have never been to The Works Museum’s annual fundraiser, Build it Bash, it needs a little explaining. It is similar to other fund raisers: it has a silent auction, good food and drink, a short presentation telling you about The Works Museum. . . . But unlike most galas, at Build it Bash grown men and women spend an hour and a half using cardboard boxes, duct tape and other materials to build forts. You know, forts! Like the ones you used to build in your living room on rainy days. Yes, it sounds crazy, but it is a blast! In the three years we have held our fort building contest our guests have made castles, dragons with glowing eyes, a miniature Eiffel Tower, space ships, modern art, tree houses (they actually built a tree from cardboard, then built a fort in the tree!) and more.

Why forts? Because we want you to remember back to times in your childhood when building, creating, problem solving, and team work were fun. When kids come to The Works Museum we put challenges in front of them that are designed to engage them in a way that is so fun they don’t realize they are actually learning S.T.E.M. concepts and important life skills. Build it Bash offers a little taste of that fun for our grown-up fans.

This year’s Build it Bash raised over $23,000 to help us continue on our quest to inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers, and creative problem solvers. Thank you to everyone who attended. Thank you to all of our cooperate sponsors, and thank you to thirteen fort teams for building with us!
