Design Lab

A unique feature at The Works Museum, our Design Lab features science projects and engineering design challenges you can do at your own pace. Experiment and explore to your heart’s content! Challenges are set up with multiple stations. Set your own pace and work alone, challenge someone else, or work collaboratively. Design Lab activities change seasonally with major school holidays or breaks. Check back often to see what we have waiting for you.

Pipe Construction

Build cool structures using PVC pipes!

Paper Towers

Problem solve like an engineer! Build the tallest tower you can using just one piece of paper and twelve inches of tape.

CD Spectroscope

Use a CD to reveal the the different wavelengths of light that mix together to create the colors you see!

Distortion Goggles

Use our special goggles to find out how different parts of your brain work together to help you throw a ball at a target.

Design Lab is open during Museum open hours. Please check our Hours and Admission page for special extended open times and holiday closures. Design Lab is included with your Museum admission. Children two and under are free.
