You may have seen The Works van driving down Highway 61 this spring. Generously funded by Xcel Energy, our Engineering Connections program delivers fun, hands on, engineering programs to two Winona, MN elementary schools.

All students at Jefferson STEM Elementary participated in Mixing Molecules in March. At the end of the day, smiling students all went home a tub of slime in their hands. “This is the best thing in the world!” one student exclaimed.

In April students from Jefferson STEM and Washington-Kosciusko Elementary brought parents and siblings to a Family Engineering Night hosted by The Works Museum. Volunteers from Xcel Energy helped participants of all ages explore circuitry, design mini catapults, build with magnets, and create a chorus of sound sandwiches. The gym was filled with laughter, excited families, and lots of engineering! One staff member stated “This is the highlight of my week,” and many parents agreed.

Winona is just one example of the more than 4,500 students and families reached by the Engineering Connections program. Thanks, Xcel Energy!
