Kit Wilhite, Senior Director of Learning Experiences at The Works Museum

Hi, my name is Kit Wilhite and I have recently joined The Works Museum as Senior Director of Learning Experiences. I will be focusing on the programs and exhibits, improving their quality and creating new activities and exhibits for the public. I bring over 20 years of experience leading programs at the Science Museum of Minnesota, including weekend classes, family workshops, preschool and summer camps. I have created many partnerships with community organizations.

The Works Museum is a comfortable, engaging place for kids and grown-ups to learn about how things work. I would like to expand the public’s understanding of what engineering is and its effect on all of our lives. I have three generations of engineers in my family: my father is a chemical engineer who early in his career developed a lunar soil sampler at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory; my brother is a mechanical engineer; my nephew is about to graduate with a degree in software engineering.

I am passionate about STEM education and really believe that STEM literacy is crucial. My special areas of interest in education include family learning, equity and inclusion, incorporation of art in STEM, early childhood physical science and construction activities, and 21st Century learning skills.

I would love to hear new ideas from our audiences! Please send them to me at kit@theworks.org.
