Meet the 2018 Summer Camp Staff!
Summer camps at The Works Museum recently started up, and our summer staff are more excited than ever to share their love of engineering with your campers. Whether you signed up for Junior Robotics, Toy Design Lab, or Code Camp, our educators will be working hard to make your child’s camp experience a great one.
Our camps stretch throughout the summer with options ranging from four-day camps, to one day experiences like Friday Fun Days. Get to know who will be leading these amazing programs below!
Our Super Summer Camp Staff:
Marissa
Marissa Woodruff graduated from Augsburg College with a degree in Education and has spent the last 3 years teaching math and STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). She loves the problem solving and persistence involved in engineering. Her favorite thing about The Works Museum is the summer camps! Marissa loves to get outside during the summer by gardening, kayaking, and hanging out with her dog.
Kristi
Kristi Kelly has a degree in Biology from the University of Minnesota, and has spent time working at the Science Museum of Minnesota, Notre Dame High School, and the Marine Mammal Center in California. She loves that engineering involves learning through inquiry, experimentation, and creating. Her favorite part of The Works Museum is the K’Nex Ball Machine. Kristi’s summer pastimes include swimming, biking, and camping.
Richard
Richard Pollard has a degree from the University of Minnesota in Electrical Engineering, and has been an educator for The Works Museum on and off for many years. This summer will be his seventh year in a row! His favorite memories of the Museum include pulling pranks on the staff and watching the Museum grow over the past 23 years. Richard loves the problem solving and opportunities to learn new things offered by the field of engineering. During the summer, you can find Richard biking and hanging out at his farm.
Megan
Megan Bauer-Erickson has a degree in Sociology and Education, and has spent 10 years working in the field of Experimental Education at organizations like Outward Bound. She loves being able to see the engineering design process in many different aspects of everyday life. Her favorite Museum experience here is “Be Safe, Be Seen.” During the summer months, Megan enjoys biking, seeing live music, and playing games.
Sonia
Sonia Krech-Jacobsen has a degree in Psychology and Early Childhood Education and has been an educator at The Works Museum for 15 years this summer! She loves that engineering is a continuous process and appreciates that there is no perfect design to achieve. Her favorite Museum experience is the block room. Sonia takes advantage of the summer weather by hiking and camping with her family, especially when she can bring her dog along.
Daniel
Daniel Fremder is currently attending the University of Minnesota and will graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2019. He has been at The Works Museum for the past 2 years. Daniel loves that engineering offers opportunities to problem solve and build cool stuff. His favorite Museum experience is the K’Nex Ball Machine. In the summer, you can find Daniel playing softball, Pokemon Go, and biking.
Korey
Korey Hanes has her PhD in astronomy and has spent time researching planets outside of our solar system. She loves discovering new engineering projects to work on. Her favorite experience at The Works Museum is the IR camera. During the summer months, Korey enjoys swimming and making ice-cream.
Brandon
Brandon Schwab has a degree in Elementary Education from the Minnesota State University of Mankato and spent the last year working at a STEM school as a math interventionist. He loves that engineering allows him to solve problems and make a difference in the lives of others. One of his favorite memories at The Works Museum was seeing a camper’s creation of Tigger Bear at a past summer camp. During the summer, you can find Brandon hiking, trying out new restaurants, and taking photos around the cities.
Katie
Katie Moore graduated from St. Catherine University with a degree in Elementary Education, and has spent the last 4 years teaching at Capitol Hill Magnet School in St. Paul. She loves the moments in engineering when a student realizes what their hard work has accomplished. Her favorite Works Museum experience is the laser maze. Katie loves to go on hikes with her dog Lila and spend time with her family during the summer.
Cathy
Cathy Eiss has spent the past 24 years teaching at the elementary level, most recently teaching 4th grade at Poplar Bridge Elementary School in Bloomington. She loves that engineering is accessible to everyone from kids to adults and that it promotes problem solving and persistence. Her favorite experience at The Works Museum has been taking her grandson to visit and watching his excitement with all of the hands-on activities. In the summer, Cathy enjoys reading, hiking, and boating.
